Back to the City

Elsa RhaeComment

I'm leaving the mountains today and while I look forward to celebrating the love and marriage of 2 of my best friends, my heart hurts. Bad. This 2-3 week trip back to the city signals the end of my favorite and most influential summer in my life's history. What a blessing and opportunity it has been to meet so many wonderful new friends, to see pieces of nature so beautiful I couldn't have ever imagined them. My honesty will tell you I'm afraid of the unknown future, my courage will tell you I'm excited and welcoming of it. With nearly 1 year of Scamp Life under my belt, I've learned that I flourish and blossom with change. Though I don't know what city or state or country I'll be in one month from now, I know that I will be happy in my own skin and will love the life I am living. Thanks for the adventure, Colorado.

Turn your sticker into a Macbook sticker!

Elsa RhaeComment

You need a sticker (like this one) and you need thick, white piece of card stock. I used the back sheet of another sticker.

Trace a circle the size of the sticker circle and cut!

Remove the sticker from its backing and place the white circle onto the sticky part of the sticker. Apply the entire piece to your Macbook and you now have a cooler Macbook than you did before!

Off Grid Coffee

Elsa Rhae4 Comments

I live off grid in my 13ft Scamp trailer. Off grid means my camper is not connected to electricity or running water, so in order to have common luxuries like coffee, I have to get a little creative.

My ultimate, favorite off grid stove is my wood burning Biolite Stove. This stove is much better for the environment than stoves that require disposable gas canisters, but to get a pitcher of boiling water, it takes about 20 minutes of effort. I bit the bullet and bought an MSR Pocket Rocket 2 in order to save some time on early mornings and late nights.

I heat the water until just before boiling.

This silicone coffee pour-over device was given to me by a good friend for my birthday. It collapses down into itself for easy storing and can withstand the heat of the water sitting inside of it for minutes on end.

There you have it. A stove, hot water, coffee grounds, and some squishy, orange devices get you the same thing as an electric powered coffee maker. Give it a try and enjoy the most satisfying cup of coffee you've ever experienced.

Why a Camper vs Tiny House

Elsa RhaeComment

What intrigued us about classic Tiny Houses:

-Small with few to no bills
-Wheels allowing for potential mobility
-Owning the thing = no more rent

We went to Portland to meet with a builder and here's what we learned:

-$80,000 base price. We could build a home ourselves for less than 1/8 of the cost
-Outlandishly heavy. Mobility would require a very, very serious tow vehicle
-Zoning laws in the US make parking extremely difficult on any piece of land
-Plumbing and electricity would require constant hookups, preventing us from an off grid lifestyle

Why we went with a camper:

-Built for mobility
-Affordable on any budget
-Durable and long lasting
-NO. MORE. RENT.

Why we went with OUR camper (13ft fiberglass Scamp):

-Extremely light weight, can tow with nearly any vehicle
-Fiberglass = extremely durable. With lack of seams and edges, Scamps hold their value for decades. No leaks, breaks, dings and easy to repair
-Very little space = very few belongings = very peaceful life
-Saving 3 months of rent, we now own our home and pay no mortgage, no rent, no bills.

There are many ways to achieve freedom. This way worked for us. <3

Arise Music Festival 2017

Elsa RhaeComment

Unlike any festival I have ever been to (truly, I have not been to many), Arise Music Festival was full of yoga, workshops, live art, and a variety of music. There were different "villages" within the festival that allowed the Risen to learn about DIY solar setups, the importance of building soil, and the abundance of uses for legal hemp.

I had the privilege of attending this festival with Dust City Designs, the manufacturers of my wood stickers! The Dust City crew built the INCREDIBLE entrance into the festival as well as the massive structures on either side of the electronic stage. I can't say enough about this team. Extraordinary people creating absolutely extraordinary things every damn day.

Give my Arise video a watch! I put in many days of work on this project since leaving the festival and I'm very happy with the final product. As I mention at the end of the video, YouTube has gone through some very serious changes in the last week and has been rapidly removing ads from my videos for "sexually suggestive content". If you enjoy my content on any of my social media platforms, please consider supporting my efforts by purchasing a sticker or subscribing to our content directly (no middle man) for $2 a month. I see you. I appreciate you. I thank you.
